Experience and Training
I attended the toLabor training workshop in January of 2011, and I continue to educate myself by talking to women about their experiences and research studies related to pregnancy and birth. I have been present as a doula at many different kinds of births. I have assisted women planning natural childbirth, women who received epidurals and other narcotic pain relief, a planned VBA2C, induced labors, and home births, to name a few! I have also personally experienced 3 unmedicated childbirths. Throughout my own pregnancies and births, and in assisting families in their births, I have gained many valuable lessons, and I am still learning.
I also attended Gail Tully's Spinning Babies workshop in Richmond, VA in 2011. Spinning Babies promotes the use of exercises to encourage optimal fetal positioning before labor begins and during the labor process so that the birth can be as "easy" as possible. The position of the baby can be crucial in helping labor to progress and to end in a vaginal, non-operative delivery.

Service Area
I am conveniently located near 5th Street in Charlottesville, and so have access to both UVA Hospital (5 minutes) and Martha Jefferson Hospital (10 minutes or less). I also love attending home births and a birth at the local birth center and I'm willing to travel within 30 miles of Charlottesville.

Barter System
I may be able to accept some or all of my doula fee in food items such as grass-fed beef, eggs, or other essential provisions. Please understand that I would love to do this for everyone but that I need to provide for my family first and foremost.
